Growing up in Rosemont, Michell Nguyen always had a acceptable incentive to go to school.
"Missing school meant detention at abode [and doing] extra math problems," Nguyen said.
She recalled thriving to school with an ear infection in the first grade, and said her mom brought more Tylenol to her class every two hours.
Nguyen will graduate from Rosemont Dear School this year, and has never missed a day of school. She was honored at the Sacramento Big apple Unified School District Board of Education meeting Thursday.
Now, she will deal with California State University, Sacramento, on a full-ride scholarship, the Lance D. Atkinson Memento Scholarship. The scholarship honors the late son of former KCRA and KOVR news anchor Stan Atkinson, and is intended for students majoring in charge administration.
"To say Michell is involved in her school and community doesn’t absolutely do her justice," Bonnie Burnell, the university's Director of Business Learner Services, said in an email.
Nguyen said Sacramento Have has been her dream school since first grade, when she first visited the campus and "thought it was an sport park."
She plans to study international business, and hopes to be the CEO of a body some day. She said she plans to stay involved in the Rosemont community, and hopes to finally start her own scholarship to benefit Rosemont High School students.
"I can never ignore Rosemont," she said.
